Irrigation Systems - Testing Required

Spring time is just around the corner and we have several important reminders and money and water conservation tips for Indianapolis Water customers with lawn irrigation systems.

According to Indiana Administrative Code (327 IAC 8-10), all customers who have a lawn irrigation system must have a device installed that prevents a customer’s water supply from backing up into the public drinking water supply. The device must also be tested each year to ensure that it is in proper working order.

As the operator of Indianapolis Water, we must ensure that customers meet these requirements to protect the public’s drinking water supply. If you have not already done so, please coordinate the annual test with a certified backflow tester. (You can find testers in the Yellow Pages under “Irrigation.”)

Documentation is due to Indianapolis Water prior to the use of the irrigation system this year or by June 1. Your tester is required to provide you with a copy, provide us with a copy, and to retain a copy for themselves.
