Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for 150 Indianapolis Water customers on the city’s far-east side

Customers asked to boil for three minutes following water main replacement


INDIANAPOLIS, March 31, 2009 – Veolia Water Indianapolis, LLC (VWI), the day-to-day manager and operator of Indianapolis Water, has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for approximately 150 customers along Washington Street in Cumberland on the city’s east side.

The boil advisory includes customers on:
• E. Washington Street from German Church to Hugo Street
• Arthur Street from Washington Street to Michigan Street
• Monroe Street from Washington Street to 10th Street
• Hugo Street from Washington Street to 10th Street
• 10th Street from Hugo Street to Arthur Street
• Michigan Street from Hugo Street to Arthur Street

A map of the area is posted on the Indianapolis Water Web site. The 150 Indianapolis Water customers in these areas along and north of Washington Street are asked to boil water for three minutes prior to drinking, cooking or consuming until Noon Wednesday, April 1, 2009. This precautionary boil advisory has been issued as a result of a water main replacement in the area due to road and sewer improvements.

Each household in the affected neighborhood will be notified of the boil advisory by Veolia employees, who are walking door to door with blue notification tags. VWI is currently taking water quality samples and will re-notify customers only if the precautionary boil advisory is extended. This precautionary boil water advisory is expected to be lifted approximately Noon April 1, 2009.
