How to conserve water when using an irrigation system
It's easy to do - and it's the right thing to do!
1) Let Mother Nature take care of the watering. Check the forecast and make the most of the water falling from the sky!
2) Set the timer on your irrigation system to water no more than every other day. Your lawn doesn't need that much water!
3) Use technology: There are many simple devices on the market today that will help you conserve water and save money at the same time. Installing a sensor that turns your system off when it’s raining conserves our most precious natural resource. Moisture sensors go one step further, and work by detecting whether your lawn needs watering in the first place. Rain sensors and moisture sensors are readily available at home improvement stores that sell irrigation systems, and can and should be purchased with any newly installed irrigation system.
Indianapolis Water is partnering with Automatic Irrigation Supply Company (AIS), a Fishers-based irrigation supply company to help educate current customers with irrigation systems on water conservation techniques and to provide information on technologies that will save water and money.
AIS is offering its products at a discounted price to customers who purchase a rain or moisture sensor directly from their Fishers or Greenwood offices, and will even provide a crash course in installation, too.
