Regular Meter Reading
Your account will be billed monthly. Your meter will be read every other month. The billing you receive in between the bimonthly readings will be an estimated reading based on a moving average of your water usage. This estimating logic is approved by the state's utility regulatory commission.
Most water meters are located in a covered meter pit outside of your home or business. However, when the water meter is located inside your business or residence, or within a fenced-in or enclosed area, we will need to access it regularly for meter reading and for testing or change-out.
Indianapolis Water rules require that inside meters be located in a clean, dry, safe place, and that all meters be accessible at all times for reading, inspection and removal for testing. If you fail to provide access, Indianapolis Water may disconnect your service. Our meter readers will have identification and be wearing uniforms, but if you have any concerns, you should call Indianapolis Water customer service.
