No Access to Existing Water Main
There are two possible costs associated with becoming an Indianapolis Water customer if you are on a property that is not currently along a water main.
Water Main Construction Cost
Many properties in Indianapolis Water's service area are on private wells and do not have access to existing water mains. Typically, new water mains are installed as property owners (individual home owners or groups of homeowners) request and pay for them.
The cost of the water main extension is shared by the property owners requesting the new main extension. The more participants who pay for the extension, the lower the cost per property owner. The cost of a water main extension is based on the footage of pipe required.
Service Line Installation Cost
In addition to the cost of the water main extension, new customers bear the cost of hiring a plumber who is licensed and bonded with Indianapolis Water to install a service line from the structure to the water main. The cost of a service line varies based on the footage required, extent of yard restoration and contractor selected. As a general guideline only, we find that the cost of a service line in a residential subdivision typically costs $900 to $1,800. However, steep topography, unusual obstacles or landscaping, and complexity of the connection to home plumbing can increase the cost of service line installations.
