Start or Stop Service

If your house or property has an existing connection to Indianapolis Water (for example, you're moving out of one house into another in an existing neighborhood) and you need to start or stop water service, please call Customer Service at 317.631.1431 at least three business days before you need water service turned on.

Indianapolis Water representatives will ask you to provide your name, phone number, Social Security number and the address of the property requiring activation or disconnection. Indianapolis Water requests at least three business days to activate or disconnect existing water service.

New Water Service

If you do not have an existing connection to Indianapolis Water (for example, you are on a private well), the first step is to determine if you have access to an existing water main. For information about the availability of water service from Indianapolis Water in your area, call 317.263.6433 or 317.631.1431. Be prepared to provide the address of the property interested in new service.

Security Deposits

Generally, an applicant for water service will not be required to make a cash security deposit at the time of connection. However, a deposit will be required after you receive disconnect notices for two consecutive months, or after disconnection for nonpayment of bills. If Indianapolis Water holds your deposit for more than 12 months, we will pay interest on the deposit at the rate of 6 percent per year or at such other rate as may be prescribed by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. Your deposit, plus any interest, will be refunded automatically upon satisfactory payment for a period of either nine consecutive months or 10 out of 12 consecutive months, unless there were late payments for any two consecutive months. Otherwise, upon termination of your service, we will apply your deposit, plus any accrued interest, to your unpaid balance. The excess, if any, of the deposit and interest over the unpaid balance will be returned to you.
