Department of Waterworks
Since 2002, the Indianapolis Department of Waterworks has successfully owned and managed Indianapolis Water, which provides drinking water to nearly one million people in central Indiana. The department has kept water rates low, improved water quality and managed a successful public-private partnership with Veolia Water, which manages the day-to-day operations of the drinking water system.
The department is committed to further enhancing water quality, keeping rates affordable, making continuous improvements to the drinking water system, and ensuring central Indiana has a sufficient water supply for future generations.
The Department of Waterworks is governed by a 7-member bipartisan Board of Directors, which oversees the operation, management and budget of the Department. The Board of Waterworks meets monthly on the third Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Beurt SerVaas Public Assembly Room in the City-County Building.
Indianapolis Department of Waterworks rates and policies are governed by the rules, regulations and rate schedules approved by the IURC. Copies of thiese rules and rate schedules are available upon request.
